Is this weekend for me?

The riding will be tailored a little to suit the group but definitely won’t be suitable for complete beginners. You’d want to be comfortable tackling trail centre reds as a minimum, and happy to have go, or at least walk, more technical stuff.

Fitness-wise, we’ll be looking at biggish days – at least 5-6 hours – with plenty of ups and downs. But we won't be leaving anybody behind - up or down.

If you have any concerns about your ability or fitness, please get in touch

(Max 8 persons)

Leader doesn’t pay with a single group of 8 (or ask for a bespoke weekend for your group)

Typical Itinerary

Meet the rest of the group and your guide at the hostel and enjoy a hearty 3 course dinner, cooked by our own chef. After dinner, enjoy a few drinks and plenty of relaxed banter, while we make some riding plans for the next two days.

Enjoy a big cooked breakfast - you’re going to need it and head straight out of the door and onto the trails. There’s loads of choice around Ambleside, and most is rocky and good all year in all weathers. Typically we’ll enjoy the classic slatey trails above Langdale, squeezing in as much top-notch riding as we can before a grand finale across Loughrigg Terrace. The back to Shackleton Lodge for tea and cakes and a hot shower.  Saturday night is usually a highlight of the whole weekend with more tasty food, perhaps even a BBQ, and plenty of chat around the table about the day’s events.

Another hearty breakfast and then we load the trailer and the minibus for the drive to the trailhead. Weather permitting, we’ll ride a big Lakeland mountain such as Helvellyn, High Street, Nan Bield or Skiddaw - every one a classic. Then back to Shackelton for a well-earned and therapeutic hot shower before hitting the road.

*Note: whenever possible, the routes we ride will be based on the group’s preferences and abilities although the weather on the day and trail conditions will also affect this.
